Recently, the very first pilot trips with the clinical transportation drone were carried out between Zwolle as well as Meppel, over a range of 16 kilometers. It is the first time in the Netherlands that a medical drone flies out of sight of the pilot over such a far away above sparsely inhabited area. This is reported by the Isala health center, among the individuals in the Medical Drone Services project.

Trajectory trips run smoothly

The course trips between Zwolle as well as Meppel are a follow-up to the very first examination trips with the clinical drone that were performed in 2020. The flight procedure is performed by ANWB Medical Air Assistance, who has acquired an exemption from the Environment and Transport Inspectorate for these flights.

According to those entailed, the initial far away trip went efficiently. There have been flown back and forth a number of times over a distance of 16 kilometers. The drone flew in between the Isala medical facility in Meppel and a meadow north of Zwolle. In the future, the drone has to fly straight in between the Isala locations Meppel and also Zwolle.

The trips are carried out of the pilot’s view (BVLOS, past aesthetic view). To make this feasible, a drone passage was momentarily set up by means of a TGB (short-term location with restrictions). Other airspace individuals must momentarily stay clear of that location, in order to avoid unsafe scenarios.

The medical drone concerned worries the Avy

Aera, a hybrid multirotor/ fixed-wing drone that can remove as well as land vertically (VTOL). The drone can carry a haul of approx. 1.5 over a range of approximately 100 km. With the Medical Drone Solutions task, companions PostNL, ANWB, Erasmus MC, Isala, Sanquin, Certe, Avy and KPN are investigating emergency medical transport by drone. The next 3 years will be explored just how to fly securely and also reliably.

Current research study has shown that there is a great deal of support for making use of drones for social purposes such as transporting emergency situation medical items. Drones are currently being used in the United Kingdom for clinical transportations to remote places.
